Madison, WI – The Madison Capitols are pleased to announce the addition of Tony Hrkac to the coaching staff.
A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Hrkac won the 1987 Hobey Baker award, given to the top collegiate hockey player, as a member of the University of North Dakota.
From there, Hrkac parlayed his collegiate talent into an NHL career that spanned 16 years and 758 games. He captured a Stanley Cup championship as a member of the 1998-99 Dallas Stars. Hrkac also played a big role with the Milwaukee Admirals in both the IHL & AHL, spending a combined five years with the club.
"I am excited to add Tony and his family to our organization; he is a great man with high-end experiences to share with our players and staff,” said Capitols head coach Luke Strand. “His accolades as a player are excellent and his ability to teach is going to be a great benefit to our team."
Hrkac will join Strand and associate head coach Keith Paulsen on the inaugural Capitols coaching staff.
I am very excited to be a part of the Madison Capitols organization and honored to be involved in growing the program into a championship team,” said Hrkac. “I am looking forward to being involved in an organization where I can pass on my experiences, knowledge and passion for the game in the great state of Wisconsin.”
