40 firefighters battle blaze at St. Croix Co. home

St. Croix Co. (News Release) - At 11:18 a.m. on June 16, 2014, the River Falls Fire Department was paged to a structure fire at 1522 County Rd. J, Pleasant Valley Township. The dispatch indicated that a passerby saw smoke and flames showing from the structure. River Falls immediately requested water tenders and engines from Roberts and United Fire. Further into the incident, Hudson was called for additional help.

Incoming units found the west side of the house fully engulfed in flames. After attempting to fight the fire from the inside of the building, firefighters had to exit to extinguish flames that had spread into the attic area. Firefighting efforts were hampered by the metal roof that had been added to the house, which made it difficult to gain access to the fire.

St. Croix Sheriff and River Falls Ambulance also assisted with the response. In all, approximately 40 firefighters battled the blaze. There were no injuries.

No one was at home at the time of the fire. Damage was significant. Initial estimates put the damage at over $100,000. The cause is under investigation, but it is believed to have originated in the area of the pool mechanical equipment.
