UPDATE (WKOW) -- The body of missing 17-year-old Thomas Biggs of Beloit has been found. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office and the Columbia County Dive Team found the body in a pond across the road from where the family was camping. It appears Biggs drowned, and the sheriff says he doesn't expect foul play was involved.
Columbia County Sheriff Dennis Richards says Biggs was last seen July 4th around 5:00 p.m. He was staying at his family's trailer in Black Hawk Park in Caledonia Township near Portage. Deputies and divers searched the nearby Wisconsin River for his body, but had no luck. On Sunday, officials decided to expand their search perimeter to include a pond near the property. At 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon divers found him in the pond.
"A terrible outcome of somebody that we were hoping was just somewhere down the road or maybe had caught a ride and went back Beloit," Sheriff Richards says. "Everybody here was hoping that the phone would ring and say he's at a different residence and didn't know we were looking for him. This is the worst case scenario for everybody."
The investigation is ongoing. An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday.
