Polk Co. authorities find body of drowning victim in Balsam Lake

Polk Co. (News Release) - On July 6, 2014, at 10:25 a.m., the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a missing swimmer at a residence located on Kemah Park Lane on Balsam Lake. Initial information received from the residence indicated that a male and female were swimming out to a swimming raft, and when the female party arrived at the raft, the male victim was not longer behind her.

Deputies responded to the scene, along with Balsam Lake Fire, WI DNR Warden, Balsam Lake Water Patrol, SCF Fire Divers, and St. Croix EMS. A water search was immediately launched in an effort to find the missing swimmer.

At 11:43 a.m., the body of Deangelo L. Williams, 24, of Hopkins, MN, was recovered in 10’ of water approx 30 yards from the dock at the residence. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by the Polk County Medical Examiner.

This case remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s and Medical Examiners Offices.
