Gault to sit out freshman season to recover from depression

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- In a candid interview with the Wisconsin State Journal, Wisconsin football freshman and Monona Grove native Jaden Gault admitted he's dealing with severe depression. According to the article, Gault was admitted to a hospital twice in both February and March after experiencing suicidal thoughts. Gault will sit out the 2014 season as he recovers. Gault told the State Journal he's been meeting with doctors on a weekly basis and feels he is taking steps towards a recovery.

“I’m making a lot of progress, I think. I’m doing better now,” Gault told the State Journal. “The big thing right now is just getting back into a schedule. Right now I’m not in classes, and come fall it’s going to be a full schedule."

Gault enrolled early at UW after winning a football state title as a senior at Monona Grove High School. He missed all of spring practice with a knee injury. He plans on using a redshirt for the 2014 season and returning to the team as soon as January 2015.
