St Croix County (WQOW) - Two women are dead after a three vehicle crash in Saint Croix County.

It happened this afternoon just after 2-30 on Highway 35, in the town of Somerset.

The Saint Croix County Sheriff's office says Amanda Day of Osceola was headed northbound on 35 trying to pass a car in front of her, when she struck that car, and it spun into the ditch. Day then hit nanoncoming SUV in the southbound lane, driven by Goldie Culver of Apple Valley, Minnesota.

Day died at the scene of the crash. She was not wearing her seatbelt. Culver was taken by helicopter to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where she later died. The driver of the car that was rear-ended was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Part of Highway 35 was closed for around three hours today while emergency crews responded.
