Wisconsin toddler's hot car death ruled accidental

Posted: Updated:

CENTURIA, Wis. (AP) - The death of a 2-year-old Wisconsin boy has been ruled an accident.

The Polk County District Attorney announced Wednesday that no charges will be filed in the death of Isaiah Theis. Dan Steffen tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/1rrup7u) there wasn't any evidence of intent or recklessness.

Isaiah's body was found in the trunk of a car on his family's property in rural Centuria nearly 27 hours after he went missing. About 2,500 people searched for him last July.

Authorities believe the boy, whose father was a mechanic, used the car keys to open the trunk.

Steffen says investigators conducted numerous forensic tests until they determined Isaiah's death was accidental.
