Woman taken into custody after standoff

FORT ATKINSON (WKOW) – Officials took a woman into protective custody after a standoff Monday night; during the standoff, she threatened to shoot officers.

According to the Fort Atkinson Police Department, officers went to a residence in the 400 block of Foster Street in the City of Fort Atkinson at 7:06 p.m. after getting a report of a disorderly adult female becoming violent. When officer tried to take the woman into custody, she retreated and displayed a long gun.

The woman later called the police department’s dispatch center. During the call, she threatened to go downstairs and shoot officers. Ten minutes later, officers heard a gunshot coming from the area the woman had retreated to. She again called the dispatch center and warned police to stay back. During the incident, immediate neighbors were evacuated and moved to Fort Atkinson Middle School.

At 12:52 a.m., officials safely took the woman into protective custody. The incident continues to be under investigation.
