Pepin Co. sex offender petitions to go without supervision

Posted: Updated:

PEPIN COUNTY (WKOW)—An Arkansas, WI man with a long history of sexual assaults is asking to go without supervision.

Kerry Abbott has admitted to 9 sexual assaults or attempted sexual assaults in Pepin and Dunn counties, usually while armed.

It was about two years ago that he was released into the community, under supervision.

A recent petition filed by Abbott said he is controlled by treatment and medication and no longer meets the criteria of sexually violent person. He also wrote that he no longer has urges or desires to offend.

Our affiliate, WQOW-TV drove by his house. They found several community members said they weren’t comfortable with him moving into town in the first place. They said they are definitely not okay with the idea of him being unsupervised. Some of the people even said they were fearful, especially because there are some single mothers and children who live near Abbott.

Pepin County Sheriff’s Office says in the 2 years he’s lived here, they haven’t had any complaints about him.

Currently, Abbott is under 24-hour supervision with a GPS. The sheriff's office says he also has to be escorted by a parole officer when he leaves his home.

A court date to review Abbott's petition has not been set.
