Horse shows at the Eau Claire County Fair

Eau Claire, WI (WQOW) - For 90 years the Eau Claire County Fair has drawn crowds.

On Wednesday, the main event was the Horse and Pony Project, or what organizers call "The Pleasure Show."

Kids involved in 4-H, FFA, and the Boy or Girl Scouts showed off their horses while competing against one another.  There are two different pools of competition: one for riders with less experience and one for the more experienced riders.   Both pools are judged on their riding skills.

"I'm looking for a really good attitude.  I'm looking for kids who really want to try.  They're just in it because they love it and really want to learn,” says volunteer judge Elizabeth Switzer.

"I like, just the challenge of riding a huge animal and being able to keep them listening to you,” explains participant Mckayla McElwaine.

"Just feeling the wind blowing in your face, and just feeling free,” adds Allisa Hansen.

On Thursday, the fair is featuring a small animals show tent, a swine show, poultry show and Cow Pie Bingo.  The gates open at 7 a.m.
