NEW DETAILS: Chippewa Falls man charged in serious crash near Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Investigators say the driver who caused a bad crash near Eau Claire last week was going 93 miles an hour just two seconds before the crash.

Two people went to the hospital after the crash last Wednesday at S. Lowes Creek Road and II, just south of Eau Claire. One of the crash victims told deputies he had a broken bone in his leg that doctors had to repair with a steel rod.

Lucas Tait, from Chippewa Falls, was charged Thursday with six felonies, including car theft and reckless driving causing great harm.

According to the criminal complaint, Tait took his sister's car without permission to show a friend how fast it would go.  Witnesses say he ran a stop sign at high speed and collided with an SUV.   The people in that vehicle were not hurt.
