INDIANAPOLIS (WKOW) -- Lawyers will argue the constitutionality of gay marriage bans in Indiana and Wisconsin on August 26.
The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals announced Friday it has rescheduled oral arguments for both states' appeals of federal court decisions for that date.
Federal judges in Indiana and Wisconsin overturned each state's gay marriage bans in separate rulings, and the 7th Circuit Court has combined their appeals. The 7th Circuit also denied requests that the states' appeals be heard before the full 10-member court instead of the customary three-judge panel.
Hundreds of same-sex couples married in both states after the respective bans were overturned. Stays of both rulings have now been issued, pending the appeals.
