Woman killed in Janesville lawnmower accident

Posted: Updated:

TOWN OF JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Rock County sheriff's officials say a 65-year-old woman was killed Saturday when a riding lawnmower tipped upside down.

First responders were called to the area of N. Polzin Road and W. Fenrick Road around 3 p.m. Saturday and found the woman partially trapped under the small lawnmower. She was not breathing and did not have a pulse. The woman was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities say she was mowing the lawn near a driveway that had a small culvert. It appears she drove too close to the incline and the lawnmower tipped over, rolling on top of her. It's believed it was on top of her for about 15 or 20 minutes before a bystander found her and was able to use a vehicle to pull the lawnmower off, partially freeing the woman.

The victim's name has not been released.
