Amelia Rose Earhart says thanks at EAA AirVenture

OSHKOSH (WKOW) -- Thousands of people from across the world are in Wisconsin this week for the annual EAA AirVenture, but for one girl with a familiar name, it's a chance to say thanks.

Last year, Amelia Rose Earhart was at AirVenture looking for sponsors and partners to help her in her quest to fly around the world. On Monday, she came back to say thanks after successfully completing the mission.

It's a flight she says she took for a woman she never met, but one that was with her along the way.

"The butterflies that I felt mostly came from the developed connection that I have with Amelia Earhart," Amelia Rose Earhart said. "And of course as a role model of me for 31 years, you develop a certain level of connection with a person. But when we flew over Howland Island I realized how tiny that island was and just the bravery it took for her to make that flight."

Earhart said the real mission behind her flight goes back to her foundation, Fly with Amelia.

"Essentially we put girls through flight school because we want them to be passionate," Earhart said. "We want them to use all of that energy and enthusiasm, especially between the ages of 16 and 18 years old, and put it towards something amazing."
