Altoona Elementary school site of emergency training exercise

Altoona (WQOW) - School is out for summer but the hallways of Altoona Elementary were open for learning Tuesday night.

Altoona Police, Fire, and EMS used Pedersen Elementary School as a training ground for a large scale emergency.

They say it's helpful to be familiar with the school should anything happen but that the training Tuesday was focused on communication between departments to make sure any situation is handled smoothly.

"It’s a collaborative effort with Altoona to make sure that we respond appropriately and get better at communicating between departments and make sure that the chaos is handled in an orchestrated manor,” said Police Lieutenant David Livingston.

This is the second large-scale training exercise this year and another will be held in the fall.
