Update: Man dies after being ejected from vehicle, driver arrested

ELLSWORTH (News Release) - On Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 2:42 a.m., the Ellsworth Police Department was dispatched to the area of Kruger Lane and Anika Court for a male subject that was lying in the roadway.

On arrival, the victim was identified as Nicholas Robert Rhiel of Ellsworth. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Rhiel was a passenger of a vehicle and was ejected from the vehicle.

The operator of the vehicle was later identified as Connor Charles Johnson of Beldenville. Johnson was later arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing injury - second offense.

Rhiel was taken by Ellsworth Area Ambulance to the River Falls Area Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. On 8/10/14, the Ellsworth Police Department received information from Regions Hospital that Nicholas had passed away.

The incident remains under investigation.

The passenger in a weekend crash that was ejected from the vehicle has died. 

Ellsworth Police say Nicholas Robert Rhiel of Ellsworth died Sunday. He was found unconscious on Kruger Lane in Ellsworth early Saturday morning. 

According to police the driver, Connor Charles Johnson of Beldenville was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing injury.

ELLSWORTH (WQOW) - One person's in the hospital, another's been arrested after an incident in Ellsworth. 

When police arrived at the scene on Kruger Lane, they found a man lying on the road. They say he was ejected from a vehicle. It's still unclear how. 

The driver of the vehicle, Connor Charles Johnson of Beldenville was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing injury. The passenger that was hurt, Nicholas Robert Rhiel of Ellsworth, was flown to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he remains in critical condition.
