Morning commute slowed by manure spill on Highway 53

Posted:

Chippewa Co. (WQOW) - It was a slippery and smelly commute Tuesday morning for some drivers on Highway 53.

Lake Hallie police say a tailgate on a dump truck came unlatched, spreading a trail of manure down the highway for more than a quarter mile.

The slippery mess caused several drivers to slide off the road. No one was hurt.

The county brought in a grader to plow the road, and then the fire department used a tanker truck to hose down the highway.

Traffic in the southbound lanes was slowed down for a couple of hours.
