UPDATE: Authorities identify 19-year-old killed after motorcycle chase, crash in Colfax

Dunn Co. (News Release) - UPDATE: The operator of the motorcycle involved in the fatal crash Tuesday has been identified as 19-year-old Michael J. Larson of rural Colfax. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dunn County Sheriff's Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Dunn Co. (News Release) -
On August 12, 2014 at approximately 1:48 PM a Village of Colfax Police Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle in the Village of Colfax. The operator of the motorcycle increased his speed in an attempt to get away from the officer and proceeded North on Cty Rd M from State Rd 40 at a high speed.

The operator of the motorcycle failed to negotiate the curve on Cty Rd M approximately three quarters of a mile north of State Rd 40 in the Township of Colfax and left the road and entered the west ditch striking some trees. The operator was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained extensive trauma. The operator, male, age 19 of Colfax, was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of family members. There were no other passengers on the motorcycle.

Colfax fire and ambulance and Mayo helicopter responded to the scene along with officers from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
