Eau Claire (WQOW) - A plan to close Eau Claire's Mail Distribution Center and dozens of others across the country may be put on hold. Today, half of the U.S. Senate called for a one year moratorium on the post office's plan to close over 80 mail processing plants. The senators claim it would slow down first-class mail delivery.
Eau Claire's Mail Distribution Center was set to begin moving its operations to St. Paul in January, closing permanently sometime next year. It is one of 82 in the country the postal service wants to close to save $750 million. A letter signed by 50 senators today asks congress to block the proposal for one year.
