Cop on a Rooftop raises $1,700 for Special Olympics

(WQOW) - A strange sight along Clairemont this morning as police served at and stood on Eau Claire’s Dunkin’ Donuts.

Area law enforcement officers took part in the statewide cop on the roof event. It combines police officers love of coffee and donuts, while raising money for Special Olympics.

"I wasn't sure if we were going to be able to pull this off with Dunkin’ Donuts being so new,” said Karen Kraus with Special Olympics. “But the community support has been amazing especially at six o'clock in the morning.”

The event raised more than $1,700 for local special Olympians

(WQOW)-Join law enforcement this morning from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Dunkin' Donuts in Eau Claire for Cop on a Rooftop. It helps benefit Special Olympics.

Karen Kraus from Special Olympics says this is the first time the event will be held in Eau Claire because it's the first Dunkin' Donuts in the area. There are 36 Dunkin' Donuts stores in the state that participate in the event. Officers from the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department, State Patrol, UW-Stout, UW-Eau Claire and Augusta will be helping at the event. Some will be on the roof, some will work the drive-thru, and others will be outside the store collecting donations for Special Olympics. Some Special Olympic athletes will also be there.
