Eau Claire Big Rig Truck and Tractor show kicks off

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Big rigs came in big numbers to Eau Claire Friday as dozens of semis set up shop on the CVTC parking lot on Clairemont Avenue. Friday marks the start of the 5th annual Eau Claire Big Rig Truck and Tractor show. Some of the best and brightest big rigs include one that has just three wheels.

"Fuel tank is powder coated green on each end, happens to match the frame to the 'T'," said Jerry Linander of Winona.

Linander's truck started off completely stock. Then the stainless steel and the inspiration took over.

"Well it's a memorial for my brother that I lost in 2011. He passed with a heart attack. He farmed with John Deere tractors, I have International, it's been a big rivalry forever. When we lost him suddenly, I decided to do a truck after him so the frame is John Deere Green paint," Linander explained.

And he means the entire frame. For other truck drivers and fans at this year's 5th annual Eau Claire Big Rig Truck and Tractor Show, the inside is the real show stopper.

"We have our small dinette, table and chairs. It also converts to a full size bed," said Jackie Wallace of Miami.

The real wood floors are elegant, the shower and bathroom are functional. And what was a factory 70 inch cab is now 120 inches.

"It is custom, everything inside of it is one of a kind. And that...I don't even want to talk about the price," added Wallace.

Speaking of one of a kind, the front of this big rig, is actually the back of a three wheeled three-seater.

"We narrowed it up a foot, and put in on for an enclosure to keep out the sun and maybe a little bit of the weather," said Walt Moss of Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin.

While working on it, the owner says he had people questioning his intent.

"I had a guy tell me that I needed some serious therapy. I told him 'What better therapy than to bring it out if it's in there," Moss said.

If you're interested in checking the show out, it runs until 11 o'clock Friday. There will be a light contest that begins around dusk. Saturday the trucks will leave the parking lot briefly for the annual parade. That starts at 8:15 at night.
