LATEST: Authorities identify three killed in crash on Highway 95 in Trempealeau County

Trempealeau Co. (Corrected News Release) - At approximately 7:38 am Deputies from Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from Arcadia Police Dept, responded to a motor vehicle crash, involving 2 vehicles, one of which was reported to be on fire. Location of crash was reported to be on State Highway 95 east of Sorlie Ln in the Town of Arcadia, near the address of W20772 State Hwy 95.

The initial officer arriving on scene observed severe damage to both vehicles with one of the vehicles fully engulfed in flames. 2 victims were located outside of the vehicles.

Based on preliminary information/investigation, a mini-van was traveling west on Hwy 95 when it collided with an eastbound SUV. The van and SUV struck "head-on" in the Eastbound land of traffic (based on evidence obtained from crash scene). After the initial contact, the van came to rest a short distance from the initial point of contact and then caught fire. There were four occupants in the van, two of which appeared to have been ejected. The remaining two occupants of the van (driver and 1 passenger) were pronounced dead at the scene by Trempealeau County Coroner Bonnie Kindschy.

The driver of the SUV was trapped in the vehicle and extricated from that vehicle prior to being transported to Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall, WI. The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at Tri-County Hospital a short time later.

The crash remains under investigation.

Trempealeau Co. (WQOW) - An area teenager is among those who died in Monday's crash in Trempealeau County.

The sheriff's department released the names of the victims on Tuesday. They include Austin Lemon, who was 14. He was from Augusta, as was Donald Lewallen, who also died. The third person killed in the crash has been identified as Patrice Hamerski, from Trempealeau. Curtis Lovelien, from Fairchild, is hospitalized with life threatening injuries. Another passenger's injuries were not life threatening.

Sheriff's reports indicate Lewallen's van was in the wrong lane when it collided head-on with Hamerski's SUV. The van then caught fire. The crash happened on Highway 95 near Arcadia. The investigation into the crash is still underway.

Trempealeau Co. (News Release) -
UPDATE: The operator of the SUV has been identified as Patrice M. Hamerski, 57, from Trempealeau.

The operator of the mini-van has been identified as Donald J. Lewallen, 34, of Augusta. The passenger in the mini-van was identified as Austin C. Lemon, 14, of Augusta.


All three were killed in the crash Monday.

Timothy D. Kroening, 34, of Owen, and Curtis L. Lovelien, 23, of Fairchild, were also passengers in the mini-van. Kroening was treated at Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall for non-life threatening injuries. Lovelien was airlifted to Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse with life threatening injuries.

Units assisting include Arcadia Police, 1st Responders and Fire Depts, Blair police and Fire Depts, Arcadia Ambulance, Whitehall Fire Dept, Tri-County Ambulance, Medlink Air and Trempealeau County Coroner's Office.

Trempealeau Co. (WQOW) - 

An early morning crash in Trempealeau County leaves three people dead, and two others hospitalized.

It happened shortly after 7:30 Monday morning at an intersection along Highway 95 east of Arcadia. The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office says an SUV collided with a minivan head on. When authorities arrived, the van was engulfed in flames.

The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. There were no other passengers in that vehicle. The driver and one of the passengers in the van were pronounced dead on scene. The other two passengers were ejected from the vehicle after the accident and taken to a La Crosse hospital. One remains in critical condition. The other was listed in serious condition.

"I did confirm that it was raining quite heavily at the time that it occurred or just shortly after that. After impact both vehicles stayed on the roadway. We've had accidents in this area before, general area I should say. Not to any extreme though," said Richard Anderson, Trempealeau County Sheriff.

The road was blocked for more than five hours. At this point names and ages of those involved have not been released. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Trempealeau Co. (WQOW) - Three people have died in a head-on crash in Trempealeau County Monday morning.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m. on Highway 95 near Sorlie Lane. Trempealeau Co. Sheriff Richard Anderson tells WQOW News 18 that an SUV was headed eastbound on 95 when it crashed head-on into a van headed westbound. The van then caught on fire.


The female driver of the SUV, who was the only person in that vehicle, was taken to Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall and pronounced dead. There were four people in the van. The driver and a passenger seated behind the driver were pronounced dead on the scene.  The two others in the van were taken to hospitals in serious to critical condition.


Sheriff Anderson says it was raining heavily at the time of the crash, but no cause has been determined yet. All lanes of Highway 95 were blocked off while crews cleared the crash.  The road should be reopened to traffic shortly.
