MADISON (WKOW) --  UW-Madison freshmen and transfer students on campus.

Chancellor Rebecca Blank gave them an official welcome at her convocation at the Kohl Center Friday morning.

In her speech, blank encouraged students to embrace their new adventure.

"I promise by the time you finish your degree, you will not just feel at home. But you will know more about some academic topics. But even more importantly, you will know a whole lot more about yourself."

Blank also emphasized the importance of service.

She encouraged students to join Badger Volunteers, a group that had about 1,300 students helping in the Madison community last year.
