Former area police chief's behavior called 'reprehensible'

Posted: Updated:
OREGON (WKOW) -- Calling the behavior "reprehensible", the Village of Oregon released details of its investigation into former police chief Doug Pettit.

The investigation revealed that Pettit did security work for a local bar and used other officers and village equipment for the off-duty work and that he did not report drug and alcohol incidents at or around the establishment.

Pettit took medical leave in May and announced his retirement, effective Monday.

Pettit's retirement eliminates the need for the village board to move ahead with any formal charges.
