Wisconsin's obesity rate climbs close to 30 percent
MADISON (WKOW) -- 29.8 percent of Wisconsin adults are obese, according to an annual study from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
That number means Wisconsin had the 22nd highest rate in the nation for adult obesity in 2013. In 1990, the adult obesity rate in Wisconsin was just 11.8 percent.
But Wisconsin is still far behind Mississippi and West Virginia, which share the dubious distinction of being the fattest states. 35.1 percent of adults in those states are obese. Colorado is the slimmest state, with an adult obesity rate of 21.3 percent.
In 1980 no state had an adult obesity rate of greater than 15 percent.
