Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - A new trail becomes the latest development in plans to beautify the entrance to downtown Chippewa Falls.
It's part of the riverfront park project. Last night the city council accepted a $170,000 matching grant from the DNR for a new trail. It will be ten feet wide, paved, and will ultimately connect with both the Chippewa River and Old Abe state trails. The grant will pay for construction as well as landscaping and labor.
"Building the pedestrian bicycle trail through the park provides access to people so that they can get throughout the park, get to different areas of the park. Get down to the water, touch the water," said Jayson Smith, Chippewa Falls City Planner.
Work on the trail is expected to get underway during the first phase of the park's construction next summer. The city says the park likely won't be finished for another five years
