Area business expo and job fair

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Eau Claire's Indoor Sports Center was flooded job seekers; and the opposite, businesses looking to hire.  It was the 2014 Business Expo and Job Fair put on by the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce.

Around 1200 people filled sports center Tuesday.

“There's a great opportunity to connect with 160 businesses and understand what goes on in the Eau Claire area,” says Bob McCoy, the President of the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce.

60 of the businesses featured are looking add employees

“There's also hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people that are here with a resume and want to find that job,” says McCoy.

Jenna Mayer is one of those people.

“I'm currently in food service, but I'm looking to get out of it,” says Mayer.

“All the jobs that are available, and the help wanted signs, indicate that the economy is growing and the businesses are looking for good skilled quality employees,” says McCoy.

“We're looking to hire 1300 people from EBay Enterprise alone,” says Renee Malton, a Client Service Manager.

But the hard part for Jenna, is finding a job that works for her.

“I've been in food service since I started working and a lot of people are like oh we don't want to hire you because you just have food.  But I look at it like I have a lot of customer service, so I could pretty much work anywhere,” says Mayer.

Expo organizers say she came to the right place.

“There's everything from engineers to teachers to clerks to cashiers, to news directors, I've never seen so many opportunities available in our area,” says McCoy.

“I got to apply and talk to some people and a few businesses.  I think it will work out,” says Mayer.

Bob McCoy said that if you missed the event today and want to see which businesses were featured, you can go to the Eau Claire Area Chamber Commerce website to find that information.
