Eau Claire, Stanley (WQOW) -- Eau Claire Regis and Stanley-Boyd could meet in Level 3 of the WIAA Division 5 playoffs, but both the Ramblers and Orioles need to take care of business in Level 2.
The Ramblers defeated Grantsburg in a Level 1 game, and are now getting ready for a trip to Chetek-Weyerhaeuser. Last week, the Ramblers were preparing to face a spread passing offense. This week, it's getting ready for the Bulldogs' ground game.
"I think it's going to be a real dogfight," says Regis head coach Bryant Brenner, "I think it's going to come down to who can sustain an effort the longest, who can fight the longest, I think both teams are very similar, record-wise, on paper-wise, it's a very similar matchup, hopefully we can hang in there and maybe stay competitive."
Defending state champ Stanley-Boyd will be back on its home turf to face Chequamegon, Friday. The top-seeded Orioles were very impressive in a Level 1 shutout against Cameron, but Stanley-Boyd head coach Jeff Koenig says there's still plenty for his team to work on.
"Well, we've just got to come out and play fundamentally sound football," says Koenig, "I wasn't really happy with our tackling in parts of the game last week and it's something that we're working on this week, we've got to be better tacklers, we've got to make sure we're blocking better, finishing our blocks, and really executing. We had the ball on the ground a few times last week, we can't afford to do that, we've got to make sure that we take care of business and really focus on the fundamentals against a really great football team."
