Firefighters battle flames at North Shore Drive home

Town of Seymour (WQOW) - A piece of new construction made fighting a house fire a little tougher.

Around noon Township Firefighters were called to battle a blaze on North Shore Drive which runs along Lake Altoona.

Fire fighters say the fire started in the kitchen and spread to the living room.

No one was home at the time, but two family pets were killed in the fire. Fire fighters say that a new roof made the fire harder to extinguish.

"The cold hasn't been so bad. The construction has been and issue though,” said Kerry Parker with Township Fire. “It's an older home and they put a roof on top of the original roof so it's ceiling, roof and then roof and the fire was between the ceiling and the first roof."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Eau Claire County (WQOW)- Crews fought to save a home near Lake Altoona Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to a home on North Shore Drive just before noon. No one was home when the fire began, but the Township Fire Department says two family pets inside the home were killed.

As of 1:30 Friday afternoon firefighters were still at the home. Crews were having difficulty completely dousing the flames because of some recent construction on the home, a new roof. Fire had spread to an area between the ceiling and the home's original roof.

Fire officials believe flames started in the kitchen area then spread to the dining room, but aren't sure what sparked the fire.
