Baldwin (WQOW) - No one was hurt when a chartered bus carrying some Eau Claire high school students caught fire Thursday night.  It happened as members of the Memorial High School German Club were returning from a field trip to the Twin Cities.

Memorial Principal Dave Oldenberg says the bus was having issues with the defroster, which led to a turbine problem in the back of the bus.  The driver pulled over along Interstate 94 in St. Croix County, and that's when the fire started.  All students were safely evacuated from the bus as the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Baldwin Fire Department responded.

The charter company, Country Coaches, sent a second bus to pick up the students and staff, but some parents drove out to Baldwin to pick up their kids.

The students who rode the replacement bus returned home to Eau Claire about 10:30 PM, about 90 minutes later than planned.
