Semi veers off I-94 and crashes into home, narrowly misses man who'd been napping

Black River Falls (WQOW)- What happened to a Jackson County man, who'd just woken from a nap, probably seemed like he was still dreaming. A semi smashed into his house Friday afternoon.

It happened Friday afternoon, around 3:30 at N7125 County Hwy A in the Township of Adams. The Black River Falls Fire Department says the crash knocked the home several feet off its foundation. When emergency crews and law enforcement arrived they found the driver outside of the semi. He was treated by EMS and taken to the hospital. The semi had been heading east on I-94 and came through the ditch, crossing County Highway A, which runs parallel to I-94 and then went crashing into the home. It's not clear, at this point, why the semi left the interstate. Alcohol and/or drugs were not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the police report.

The homeowner was inside when the semi stuck, in fact he had just woken from a nap and left the bedroom moments before the semi came crashing though the wall! He was not hurt, but cannot stay inside the home because of the damage. The Red Cross is helping him find a place to stay.

The DNR was also called because the semi was leaking fuel. One of the fuel tanks was damaged and it's estimated that 60 to 65 gallons of fuel spilled before the leak was stopped. Officials say no waterway is threatened by the spill.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the crash.
