Eau Claire (WQOW) - Hundreds of helping hands gathered for Eau Claire's Annual City Spring Clean Up.
Whisking away weeds and sweeping soiled sidewalks were just a couple of the 30 projects included in this year's cleanup. Coordinators said this day and the volunteers are crucial for crossing items off the list.
"Some of these projects might not get done otherwise," Downtown Eau Claire Incorporated Salina Heller said. "Anytime you get people together to do tasks and chores on a Saturday, it's phenomenal."
About 400 volunteers of all ages gathered to give their time.
"Three hours on a Saturday multiplied by 300-400 people ends up being a whole month's worth of work that we can get done in a short period of time, and it's something that attracts people to our city, which encourages growth and just helps the community all-around," volunteer Josh Sterling said.
Coordinators said the clean up does not mean there is anything wrong with Eau Claire.
Downtown Eau Claire is a beautiful place in and of itself, but we need some spring cleanup, just as you do in your own yards and things like that," Heller said.
However, it is a task that still must be done.
"We have such a wonderful downtown," Sterling said. "I think some people forget about it, and then I think the people who do remember it tend to forget how much work goes into it."
Downtown Eau Claire Incorporated said they are always actively searching for projects for next year's spring cleanup.
