Eau Claire (WQOW) - The City of Eau Claire reminded residents of a city ordinance that requires them to keep lawns mowed.
Wet weather helped grass grow quickly, but the blades need to be cut before they get over 7 inches tall. The city has already received 70 complaints about long grass in lawns this year. When the city receives a complaint, it sends crews to inspect the property themselves. Of those 70 complaints, they've given 50 warnings for residents to mow the lawn within 24 hours. After that time, the city takes action. Crews have come in to cut 14 lawns this year, which can cost the residents anywhere from $100-200.
"If you need somebody to take care of it, maybe talk to a neighbor or see if you can have a friend or a family member take care of it for you," Street Maintenance Supervisor Jared Books said. "Otherwise, there are a lot of lawn care companies in town that would be happy to take care of it for you."
The city also asked residents to not blow blades of grass into the street to avoid plugging the sewer system.
