Eau Claire (WQOW) - On Wednesday the Eau Claire City County Health Department's Board of Health discussed a grant meant to help prepare for Ebola.
Congress gave $576 million dollars to the CDC for Ebola prevention. That money was then distributed to all of the states and trickled down to area hospitals and health departments. The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is receiving about $23,000.
"So we'll be using some of that money to plan and exercise an Ebola or similar disease event," Eau Claire Health Department Director Elizabeth Giese said. "We'll also be using some of that funding for training of staff, again the work of investigating communicable disease and responding appropriately is tough work and we don't have separate funding to do that so this gives us an opportunity to explore additional training for staff as well."
The health department will also use the grant to be in communication with local school districts, hospitals and law enforcement to make sure everyone is on the same page if something were to happen.
