Eau Claire County (WQOW) - Eau Claire County approved to keep its multi-million dollar promise to the Eau Claire Confluence Project at Tuesday night's meeting.
Eau Claire County's Committee on Administration will go forward with a $3.5 million pledge to the arts portion of the Confluence Project.
News 18 previously reported that the county was wrestling with the decision. The board originally agreed to pledge $3.5 million to the arts portion of the project, under the assumption the state was to provide $25 million, but after the budget was signed the project was only receiving $15 million from the state.
Gregg Moore, the chair of the Eau Claire County Committee on Administration, said committee members discussed at Tuesday's meeting about the state's pledge change. "According to the developers of the project, we're reassured that the facility will meet the needs of the community and it's being restructured but there's no reason to indicate to us that this is a project that is not viable and that it really will be a positive asset for the community,” Moore said.
The resolution will also need to be approved by the county's finance committee before going before the full county board for final approval. The county board will meet September 15.
