Eau Claire (WQOW) - Marshfield Clinic Health System and Grace Lutheran Communities teamed up with the goal of making recovery from surgery more comfortable and more affordable.
The new comfort and recovery suites can be seen along Craig Road. The 12-bed unit is a skilled nursing facility that allows patients recovering from surgery to stay in comfortable private suites with 24-hour access to both food and medical services.
Each suite is equipped with a private bathroom, work area, sofas and Internet and TV access. While it may sound more like a hotel than a medical care facility, Marshfield Clinic said the cost to stay there is much less than what would be charged for a hospital stay.
"The fee that we charge in an amateur surgery center for a surgery is less than it would be in a hospital setting, and then a skilled nursing facility stay is less costly than a three-day hospital stay," Scott Polenz, with Marshfield Clinic Health System, said. "If you put those all together, we can lower the cost of care."
Eau Claire-based Grace Lutheran Communities will manage the facility and provide care services. It is scheduled to open for patients on Nov. 16.
Eau Claire (WQOW) - Hospital staff at Marshfield Clinic Health System said their latest addition to the hospital could fill close to 160 positions, including certified nursing assistants and registered nurses.
In late April, the hospital asked the Eau Claire Plan Commission for permission to build a one-story addition to its clinic on Craig Road in Eau Claire. When completed, the $8 million project will serve as a healing and rehabilitation center, providing 12 comfort and recovery suites and a lower lever that could serve as space for labs and meetings.
"The idea is that people can actually stay in their rooms for two to three days that they're going to be there and actually do the rehab in the room," Scott Polenz with Marshfield Clinic Health System said. "...and a two or three day stay in a skilled nursing facility like we're building will be less expensive than it would be in a hospital setting."
Construction is expected to be completed by mid-October with the addition opening on November 2.
