Eau Claire (WQOW)- 'Giving Tuesday' might be the day to give back, but that's what some UW-Eau Claire students do all year long for Blugold Beginnings.
Blugold Beginnings is a program that works with kids all over the Chippewa Valley to get them excited about going to college, especially those that are from low income, underrepresented, and first generation families.
In the spirit of 'Giving Tuesday,' an anonymous couple agreed to match every dollar donated to the program by the end of the day to support Blugold Beginnings. At last check that amount had grown to $3,000.
Jodi Thesing-Ritter, director and co-founder of Blugold Beginnings, said being able to get kids involved early in college activities is something the community is excited about.
"We know that an educated populous is going to make our community stronger, so events like tonight provide us the opportunity to learn about college, and for members of our community excited about supporting that dream for kids," said Thesing-Ritter.
The program has over 250 college students serving as mentors, and right now they're working with over 550 students at schools throughout the Chippewa Valley.
Although 'Giving Tuesday' has come to a close, you can still donate to the program here.
