Eau Claire (WQOW) - UW-Eau Claire Police are searching for vandalism suspects that tried pulling six small pine trees out of the ground in front of Murray and Towers Halls.
UW-Eau Claire Police said the trees cost around $100 each and were just planted this fall.
"It is really sad that people are doing that to the trees because I watched them plant them," UW-Eau Claire student Hallie Hancock said. "They are really cute little trees, and then I watched them dig them up. I didn't really know that people would do that to campus."
Police said the roots were damaged, but are hopeful they will survive after being replanted in a different location. UW-Eau Claire students said it was frustrating seeing the trees taken away.
"It is a little disheartening because one of the reasons why I came here is do to how beautiful the campus is, and the fact that they are taking down the trees is really damaging the beauty of the campus," UW-Eau Claire student Andreas Ezer said.
