Altoona (WQOW)- As more developments continue to pop up in Altoona, the city has made their mark on the map, and hopes passing tourists will take notice.
Altoona City Council signed off a new agreement with Visit Eau Claire Thursday. It's a group that helps promote tourism. Visit Eau Claire first started working with Altoona in 2014 and gets a percentage of the city's room tax. Now, Staybridge Suites is set to open next summer, and higher budget will be available so a new agreement was drawn up. Under the new contract Altoona will get a whole new website.
The new contract will also allow the city to work closely with Visit Eau Claire to be more involved in website branding, creative design, and coming up with stories to feature.
Also on tonight's agenda, City Council voted to move forward with buying solar panels from Eau Claire Energy Cooperative. The 459 panels will cost the city $299,000, and will be used to power utilities.
