Eau Claire (WQOW) - They're not just for getting some cool birds eye view videos, now drones are making their way to college campuses and in the virtual classroom.
Starting this summer, CVTC will be the first school in the Wisconsin Technical College System to provide a drone certification course. It'll teach different aspects of flying, like basic techniques, ethical drone use and the legal rules and regulations. The college said they implemented the course after some of the instructors and students noticed the growing need for drones in areas like agriculture business and criminal justice.
"This is up and coming new technology. We feel that we're going to be able to offer a more comprehensive training of this U-A-V technology than what someone could get on their own just by buying something and trying it out through trial and error," said Lynette Livingston, Dean of Business and Academic Initiatives.
The college said there will be three online courses offered this summer. They will be focused on fundamentals and theory, operations and policy development. Enrollment for the course is open now and you can follow this link for registration information.
