Eau Claire (WQOW) - Twelve out of the twenty drunkest cities in America are in Wisconsin according to the AOL-Huffington Post financial news site 24/7 Wall St. Eau Claire came in at #9 on the list.
The article says it came up with its rankings based on surveys asking people in metro areas how much they drink. Those reports came from the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps and used the CDC definition of binge drinking and heavy drinking.
The report says nationally, 18% of adults on average drink unhealthy amounts of alcohol.
In Eau Claire 24.3% of adults are considered unhealthy drinkers, and 43.3% of fatal car crashes involve alcohol.
According to our ABC affiliate station in Green Bay, WBAY, this isn't the first report to say Wisconsin as a "thirsty" state. In a report done in 2013 on The Street, declared Wisconsin only the 7th drunkest state based on statistics from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, consuming 3,010 gallons of alcohol per person.
