MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Utility crews worked through the night to restore power to thousands who lost service when a powerful storm moved through parts of Wisconsin.

High winds knocked a large tree onto a home in Onalaska Tuesday night. Everyone inside is OK. In Buffalo County, a large machine shed was destroyed by the storm. WXOW-TV ( ) says the La Crosse Regional Airport reported a wind gust in excess of 75 mph.

About 9,600 Madison Gas & Electric customers remained without power early Wednesday, along with about 3,000 Alliant Energy users.

Dane County sheriff's deputies say a house fire in the Town of Montrose likely started by downed power lines. Sheriff's officials say the majority of emergency calls were related to large trees that had fallen across roadways, creating safety hazards.
