Charges filed in Trempealeau church arson case

Trempealeau (WQOW) - Criminal charges have now been filed against a man accused of setting fire to a church in the village of Trempealeau.

John Humm is charged with arson, criminal damage to religious property and resisting an officer.  According to the charges, Humm broke a window at Saint Bartholomew's Catholic Church early Sunday morning and was pouring gasoline inside, while fire burned outside.

Officers gave chase, and say when they caught him Humm refused to show his hands.  They finally tased him twice.  When asked his name, Humm gave the name of the fictional TV show character Jim Lahey from Trailer Park Boys.  Police say he had an alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit for driving.

Humm will make his initial court appearance on Tuesday.
