Eau Claire (WQOW)-- Finding ways to stay cool in the heat can be a challenge for all of us, but News 18 was able to do just that by taking an inside look at American Ice Company.
The area where the ice is bagged is kept at about 45 degrees, and from there it is moved to the storage area which is kept at 10 degrees. In total, they ship out about 80 tons of ice each day, which is the equivalent of about 20 thousand bags.
The company employs 46 people who work year round. American Ice Company President Bob Moelter told us this is one of their busiest days of the year because of the warm weather and a big event like Country Jam where they are sending nearly 100 tons of ice over the weekend. Busy weekends like this are what make this a year-round operation just to keep up.
"This time of year we are generally distributing ice at two to three times the rate we are producing it," Moelter said. "We warehouse about 800 tons of ice in the spring of the year so it is available when we hit busy times like we have right now."
Moelter also said they ship about 12 trucks of ice from Eau Claire all throughout the state, and as far away as South Dakota each day.
