Menomonie (WQOW)- Born and raised in Menomonie, Andrew Mercil works to preserve and promote one of the city's brightest jewels.

"Growing up, performing on the Mabel Tainter stage, there's really nothing like it," recalled Andrew. Center stage or back stage he says the real star of Menomonie is the historic theater.

Andrew has spent 6 years serving on the board of directors for the Mabel Tainter  and many more singing its praises. "Two years ago CNN ranked the Mabel as one of the 15 most spectacular theaters in the world," said Andrew. He served as the chair of the Mabel's 125th anniversary committee and said while it's been around for well over a century, there is still work to do. "There are still people in the community and in the surrounding area that have never been in the Mabel. So we're trying to make sure that the Mabel is open and accessible as possible."

Currently, Andrew chairs the Mabel's PR and Marketing Committee, he's a city council member and works at UW-Stout and is about to open a new restaurant downtown. When asked why he chooses to stay so busy Andrew simply replied, "My mother always taught us growing up to give back to the community."

"He honestly cares about where he lives and has taken it upon himself to make the place where he lives a better place, and to really make it a place to be," said fellow Menomonie resident Melissa Kneeland. "So instead of saying, 'Things aren't happening in my town, I'm going to move somewhere else' he says, 'How do we make the place where we live the place to be?'"
