Fall Creek (WQOW)- You may need your running shoes because our latest Jefferson Award winner is a volunteer who is tough to keep up with.
Joell Anders brought Girls on the Run, a non-profit program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade, to Fall Creek. In just 5 years the volunteer run program has more than tripled in size and has encouraged over 350 people to run a 5k.
Joell mobilized a team of 10 coaches this past year and logged over 200 volunteer hours in the Girls on the Run program alone. But when talking about her volunteer experiences she said, anyone can make a difference, and it doesn't necessarily require a big time commitment. "Just get involved. Talk to people. Make a connection. That's important," Joell stressed. "A positive connection can change people, so simply, by a smile. Honestly, a smile and just saying, 'How are you today?' speaks volumes."
