Corpus Christie, TX (WQOW) - Officials have identified a western Wisconsin teen who drowned in Texas over the weekend.
The medical examiner confirmed the body, found on Monday, is Gabriel Carpenter, age 13 of Ellsworth.
According to emergency crews, the teen was last seen Sunday evening about 200 yards out in the surf in the Gulf of Mexico. They also said he was not wearing a life jacket.
His two brothers who were with him were not successful in trying to save him. Officials said it is a dangerous area with rip tides. One of the brothers told police that Gabriel did not know how to swim.
