Estate sale held at Kay Onarheim's former home

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Shoes, designer bags, clothes and more were walked out of former Eau Claire County Deputy Treasurer Kay Onarheim's front door as the county hosted an estate sale, trying to earn back some of the money she embezzled.

Earlier this year, Onarheim was found guilty of embezzling more than $600,000 and was sentenced up to 13 years in prison. The missing amount was later found to total nearly $1.4 million.

Many people were seen going in and out of the estate sale Friday, but one neighbor News 18 spoke with said she was avoiding it all together because, in her worlds, the home has been a scar in the community.

The county said all proceeds from the sale will go back to the county as part of Onarheim's restitution. The sale will continue through Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. It is located at 1509 Webster Avenue.  A Craigslist ad has been posted with more information.
