Clifton (WQOW) -- With the start of gun deer hunting season this weekend, it's an important reminder for drivers that deer are especially active right now.
Early Saturday morning, a woman in Pierce County was taken to the hospital after trying to avoid a deer on the road.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, Breanna Kinneman was driving East on Highway 29 near County Road MM in Clifton Township just after Midnight. The 23-year-old from Prescott, Wisconsin swerved to miss a deer and struck a guardrail.
She was taken to Regions Hospital with severe injuries. The Sheriff's Office says the accident is still being investigated.
The River Falls EMS, River Falls Fire Department, River Falls Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.
