Rib Mountain (WAOW) -- Granite Peak has officially opened the doors to the public as they kick off the 2016-2017 ski season Saturday afternoon.
Hundreds of people lined the ski lift looking to get in the first run of the year.
Chris Pingel is the Director of Skier Services at Granite Peak who said, the weeks of preparation have finally come to an end.
"It's been an on and off battle," Pingel said.
Pingel said they opened four runs to the public on Saturday.
Granite Peak was forced to open its doors at 3:00 p.m. because of the slightly higher temperatures than they expected.
"If we let [the temperature] get closer to freezing before people ski on it, it's actually going to save the snow," Pingel said.
Granite Peak will open Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
